Preliminary Wrestlemania Numbers Encouraging + News on Backlash Main Event

- The preliminary Wrestlemania XX numbers look to have the show generated about 825,000 buys for a 1.53 percent buyrate. That would make it the third highest rated Wrestlemania of all-time (in terms of buys) behind only Wrestlemania 17 and 18. However, since WWE raised the actual price for the PPV from $39.95 to $49.95, it could end up generating the biggest revenue out of them all. Internally, the company hopes that when all the figures are tabulated, the event ends up doing between 900,000 and 950,000 buys.

- Also based on preliminary estimates, Wrestlemania XX grossed around $44 million from the pay-per-view, live event gate and merchandise which puts it currently second behind Wrestlemania 17 which produced gross revenue of $46.5 million. If the final buys for the show end up at 875,000 or more, Wrestlemania XX will break that record. Despite all this success, Wrestlemania XX will not be the most profitable Wrestlemania of all-time as the company undertook a way more extensive advertising campaign, reportedly around $5 million.

- Chris Benoit is currently the favorite to retain the World Heavyweight title at Backlash in his match with Shawn Michaels and Triple H. Apart from the event being in Benoit's hometown, Triple H is scheduled to begin filming his new movie in late April so he will miss some time and thus, probably won't be champion during this time. However, it is expected that he will eventually win back the title sometime in the summer, possibly at Summerslam.
